A music lover since birth, or since I have any trace memory, I embark to analyze my beloved art form from its roots...the lyrics. For too long, we have hummed, whistled, and sung the lyrics of popular songs. But, have we ever taken the time to really sit back and think about what the lyricist was trying to say? In this webseries, I embark to analyze, dissect, even disembowel the lyrics from our era's most popular songwriters: Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Pete Townshend, Alanis Morisette, Jim Morrison, Lionel Richie, Sting and others.
My bi-weekly segment may have some fuming mad at my unprovoked attached on their musical idols. Others may turn off the video and try to cleanse their mind (meditation style) of any negative images. But still others might appreciate and agree that the lyrics to many popular songs are often brain numbingly stupid, intensely maudlin, or achingly awkward.
Enjoy!
